Air Products CryoEase® Services supplied a high purity speciality gas installation for the University of Birminghams Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Department.
The system has a working pressure of 200 Bar.
The project involved locating gas cylinders indoors due to listed building restrictions.
To achieve the necessary Health & Safety standards a negative pressure gas chamber was designed by Air Products CryoEase® Services' Engineering Services division to house cylinders containing flammable and toxic gases safely.
The chamber incorporates a gas detection system, which is linked to high flow venting to a safe environment. Venting is triggered in the event of any gas leakage. In addition, distribution panels were installed for inert process gases for an isotope-ratio mass spectrometer.
Air Products CryoEase® Services liaised with the Estates Engineering Department, site SHE management, equipment manufacturers and the end-users of the equipment in a consultancy role to facilitate the turnkey package. The system was installed in 2006 and has been running successfully since.
