The ski resort of Courchevel in the French Alps found its wastewater system could no longer cope with the huge surge of visitors in the winter.

The treatment facility had four basins treating biological waste and waste sludge, each with its own surface oxygenator. The facilitys oxygenation limit peaks at 2,400kg of oxygen a day, the equivalent of 26,000 inhabitants. Peak demand in winter was 30% higher than this.

The local authority commissioned Air Products Halia® Propeller Aeration VSA process, an innovative wastewater oxygenation system

Unlike traditional oxygen systems, an on-site generator meant that tankers were not required to deliver liquid oxygen, which is particularly difficult in the winter months.

Because the Halia® Propeller Aeration VSA system was simple to install and set to run, no civil engineering works were needed, and the existing facility did not need to be modified.
