Evercreech Works receive a mixed effluent stream of domestic sewage and dairy waste. This was formerly treated by extended aeration systems using stone trickling filter beds.

Sewaco was contracted to construct a new plastic media roughing filter to improve secondary effluent quality for further treatment before discharge to a local watercourse.

An 11.75m-diameter, single-stage Hyrate biofilter was constructed and packed with 605m3 of modular plastic media to a depth of 5.4m. The structure was fitted with a roof to provide odour control by utilising down-draft ventilation.

The filter receives post-primary settled liquor at up to 55 litres/sec. This is then pumped to the Hycover stainless steel open trough distributor, which is fitted with an over-mounted drive to control rotational speed and wetting rate.
