Exelys™ is a continuous process combining thermal hydrolysis and anaerobic digestion for the reduction of sludge volumes. Exelys™ can handle all kinds of organic, industrial or municipal sludge, including those containing fat, oil and grease.

  • Selling the energy produced by co-generation or producing bio-methane

Process

Exelys™ is continuous thermal hydrolysis operating 24 hours a day with feed and removal levels that are adjustable in real time. 

Primary and secondary sludges are subjected to controlled temperature (165°C), pressure (9 bar) and duration time (approximately 30 minutes) conditions. The system is controlled by a PLC that modulates the steam flow rate in line with the amount of sludge injected.

Downstream, the biodegradable matter is usually treated using anaerobic digestion.

The process can be set up in three different configurations with whole or partial treatment of the sludge prior to digestion or with a sludge recirculation loop between the hydrolysis reactor and the digester.

Package Exelys™

The Exelys™ process is also available as a pre-fabricated, skid-mounted plant. The package solution is suitable for small to medium anaerobic digestion plants with capacity from 4,000t DS/year to 10,000t DS/year.
