United Utilities plc was upgrading its plant at Stockport Wastewater Treatment Works. As part of this modernisation, new dewatering technology had to be be installed and there was a requirement for high energy efficiency combined with high performance sludge dewatering.
MSE Hiller supplied two of their Hiller model DP 574 SEE (Stationary Energy Efficient drive) centrifuges, running on powder polymer as a permanent installed solution. The complete installation was delivered through United Utilities solution partner KMI. The new SEE system features an enclosed, "no-belt" design of drive that is more efficient than older dewatering technologies.
The digested sludge feed was 2–3.5% dry solids and the resulting sludge cake solids were dewatered to 25–27% DS. Recovery rate of 98% was achieved.
