Requirement

Yorkshire Water recently carried out a major refurbishment at the Worsborough STW works, as part of the AMP 6 programme. The project involved the upgrading the existing two lined lagoons due to the existing tubular diffuser system not meeting the DO requirements.

Solution

Aquasystems International NV initially provided two 22kW AER-SB-L Aqua Turbo submersible aerators with distribution channels on a trial basis. These were provided with electrical control panels and cabling all installed by Aquasystems. Since the lagoons are lined, Aquasystems installed a tubular base on each aerator to avoid damaging the lining.

Outcome

The aerators worked extremely well, and despite there being a significant amount of rag sometimes present in the effluent, the Aqua Turbo channel design did not block or rag up.

After a period of approximately six months, the client placed an order to purchase a further two 22kW Aqua Turbo AER-SB-L submersible Aerators and also four 4kW Floating Mixers Type MIX-AS for new anoxic zones.

The units have now been successfully operating for over 18 months and support the existing activated sludge plant.
