DynaSand® is a continuously operating sand filter with an internal washing system. DynaSand eliminates the need for wash water storage tanks, backwash pumps and collecting tanks. Filter tanks and internals are made from stainless steel or GRP.

With the addition of metal salts, DynaSand® can provide phosphorus removals down to 0.1 mg/l whilst also removing effluent BOD and TSS down to 10 mg/l.

  • Treatment of wastewater before discharge, including phosphorus removal.

Process overview

Water is admitted through an inlet in the lower section and is cleaned as it flows upwards through a sand bed.

The sand containing impurities is conveyed by an airlift pump to the washer at the top.

Cleaning of the sand begins in the pump itself, where particles of dirt are separated from the sand grains by the mixing action.

Contaminated sand then spills into a washer labyrinth, in which it is washed by a small counter current flow of filtrate water. Impurities are discharged while the clean sand is returned to the sand bed.

Energy and chemical consumption is low.

Manufacture and composition

Filter tanks and internals are made from stainless steel or GRP.

The filter has no moving parts.
