The waterborne system and flow-through appliances within Fairford Pre-School in Gloucestershire have been protected from the effects of limescale, thanks to Cistermiser’s Combimate. The Combimate, a limescale and soft water corrosion reduction system, has been installed at the school’s facilities located in this notoriously hard water area.

Hard water affects appliances such as taps, radiators, pipes and valves by gradually leaving a build-up of limescale that causes damage through corrosion and can eventually cause a blockage. The same effects can impact on the efficiency of a heating system, ultimately increasing running costs and carbon emissions.

Combimate provides a solution to this problem, helping to save on the cost of appliance maintenance, potential replacement and hiking energy bills. By installing Combimate at the entrance of the water supply, Fairford pre-school has ensured its entire system is protected from the effects of limescale. While this site is located in a hard water area, the Combimate solution works for soft water areas too, preventing the corrosion experienced in these parts of the country.

Combimate uses Combiphos, a food-grade, World Health Organisation approved polyphosphate compound that is entirely safe for human consumption. This is completely tasteless and odourless. When in contact with water, Combiphos coats the inside of pipework and flow-through appliances with a non-residual, microscopic, protective coating. This prevents scale-causing minerals from accumulating by binding to the mineral ions naturally present in the water.

Simple to install, there are two pipe fitment options. Installers can select from 15mm or 22mm, depending on the size of the existing waterborne system to be protected. In addition Cistermiser provides both technical advice and step-by-step video guidance on the installation of the device to ensure accurate and hassle-free fitting.

“Water is naturally corrosive, by its very nature,” explains Cistermiser’s Technical Director, David Meacock. “Over time, if left unchecked, it can cause significantly higher costs in the running, maintenance and even replacement of appliances and, in the worst cases, entire systems. Customers, such as Fairford Pre-School simply need to replace the capsules within the Combimate each year, to guarantee an efficient, scale-free system.”
