Context

The Managua wastewater plant is located on the shores Lake Managua in Nicaragua, and is one of Central America’s largest fresh water reservoirs, near the country’s capital city. The plant decontaminates the lake which, for more than 80 years, has been polluted by the unregulated flow of household sewage and industrial effluent.

Challenge

The plant's management originally intended to use an active sludge system, but changed its mind after seeing the benefits of the 2H BIOdek trickling filter system from Enexio.

Solution

The 2H BIOdek plastic trickling filter system helps the plant save money, lower its energy use and reduce carbon emissions. The reliability of the system, and its ease of operation, helped confirm the plant's decision to choose this technology.

Key features and benefits

  • Low operational energy demand
  • Cost savings
  • Optimum effluent quality
  • Low carbon footprint
