Bagnall was approached by the client to come up with a solution to repair a collapsing filter structure without disturbing the still effective filter media contained in the bed. Solution
Bagnall's engineers developed a design to enable the existing collapsing structure to be encased in new pre-cast concrete filter bed walls.
This involved excavating around the existing wall units to construct a new ring beam for the PCC wall units to sit on, then craning the PCC wall units in situ. The wall units were then tensioned and a toe beam cast around the base to lock the new panels into place.
The filter remained in service throughout the works removing the requirement for temporary treatment facilities, reducing costs and saving time.
