Combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and stormwater runoff are pressing issues in the UK, prompting growing concern from both the public and the government. To address these challenges, ARM Ltd has introduced ARMStorm™—a nature-based solution leveraging wetland technology.
These systems are designed to effectively buffer and store sludge and solids, particularly during dry periods, thanks to their large volume and longer residence times. The bed is continually treated, regardless of demand, enhancing efficiency and offering a sustainable and cost-effective way to manage high-volume water flows.
ARMStorm™ systems maintain saturation, ensuring healthy biomass over extended periods. Intermittent aeration supports microbial degradation even without water flow. This capacity allows the systems to handle large volumes, buffer peak pollutant loads, and extend retention times, with additional surface storage in the reedbeds.
How ARMStorm© works:
The treatment area is assessed for the new installation's requirements, considering factors like predicted loads, contaminant levels, population size, and disposal methods. The bed is designed to handle urban pressures and is stress-tested to ensure proper functionality.
ARMStorm© operates by first filtering out debris and physical contaminants from wastewater, then using reeds in secondary treatment to remove microbial contaminants. The beds are aerated to enhance contaminant movement and improve removal efficiency.
ARMStorm© focuses on efficient stormwater capture and treatment to mitigate flooding and manage water pollution, with improvements over the previous Forced Bed Aeration (FBA)© system to handle higher water levels, seasonal flows, and sediment removal.
The benefits of using ARMStorm©:
Ongoing Monitoring: The system is continuously checked and adjusted to ensure it operates effectively.
Flexible Installation: ARMStorm® can be customised to fit different needs, with its aerated design offering more options for setup.
Seasonal Adaptability: ARMStorm® handles seasonal changes in wastewater flow with buffers and storage tanks, keeping the treatment system balanced throughout the year.
Constant Aeration: The bed is always aerated, even when there’s no flow, preventing contaminants from settling and ensuring consistent performance.
Value Engineering: We specialise in system design that saves you money, speeds up delivery, and reduces maintenance while cutting out unnecessary additions
