Siltbuster - oily water separators

Oil Water Separators (OWS)

Typically conventional OWS units are designed to API Standard 421 and are designed to remove oil globules greater than 150microns in diameter. Where the globules are smaller (due to for example the use of high speed centrifugal pumps) or a tight treated water quality is required it is necessary to use more sophisticated separation methods.

Assuming that all the oil is free phase, we have three products that can be used for oil water separation namely:

• Tilted Plate Oil Water Separators
• Coalescing Media Oil Water Separation Units
• Dissolved air flotation (DAF)

Tilted Plated Oil Water Separators (OWS) Units

The Siltbuster range of tilted plate oil-water separators are designed in accordance with API standard 421 and to remove oil particles greater than 60micron in diameter and unlike most conventional tilted plate separators will also cope with a high suspended solids/grit load due to the integral Hopper Bottom (HB) of the unit. If the solids concentrations are low a Flat Bottom (FB) unit can be used. The standard Siltbuster OWS unit is capable of treating a nominal flow of 50m3/hr.

Coalescing Media Units

To remove smaller free phase oil particles it is necessary to use either a coalescing media separator or DAF. Unlike conventional coalescing media separators our units use a media that provides approximately twice the surface area of most other media in an open structure form which makes it less prone to clogging with silt.

The media is supplied in the form of 1ft cubic blocks and therefore the design can be easily tailored to meet the flow and treated water standards you require. In standard tests the media has been shown to reduce the free phase oil concentrations from 4250mg/l to less than 5mg/l at flux rates of 20 to 40m3/hr per square metre of media area. Our standard hire units contain 27 media cubes, enabling the unit to easily deal with 40m3/hr.
