IPSS is a professional body that promotes soil science and allied disciplines.

Other aims include:
• setting and maintaining standards of professional competence
• representing the profession at national and international level
• accrediting courses in soils and related topics
• influencing standards and practices for the application of soil science in Europe and internationally

The Institute is a member of the Science Council and is an awarding body for the qualification Chartered Scientist.
