Heat exchange bundles are vital to the operation of a plant. Failures, usually caused by corrosion or erosion, can be detrimental both economically and environmentally.

Inspectahire has launched a new system which allows for regular inspection of tubes, which is the only way to detect wall loss at an early stage.

The ultrasonic system, known as IRIS (internal rotary inspection system), scans and measures the remnant wall thickness along the full length and circumference of tubes.

Allowing the inspection of both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, IRIS uses an immersion pulse-echo technique whereby a probe is centred in the tubular to be inspected and ultrasonic pulses are transmitted along a path parallel to the tube axis.
