Designed for population equivalents of up to 3,000, Jacopa's Copa® SAF (Submerged Aerated Filter) is a range of small-footprint, biological packaged wastewater treatment systems that are designed to be flexible, robust in performance and to provide years of low maintenance operation.
The Copa® SAF system provides great flexibility, making it suitable for a wide range of biological wastewater treatment options for BOD:SS:NH4 removal – for example as a roughing filter, for carbonaceous treatment; or for partial and total nitrification or for a combination of carbonaceous and nitrification.
With two decades of development and over 300 operational installations, Copa® SAF packaged wastewater treatment plants have earned a reputation as robust and reliable solutions for the biological treatment of both domestic and industrial wastewaters.
Extensively used and preferred by many UK water companies, the Copa® SAF technology is one of the simplest to operate and most reliable biological treatment plants available, capable of exceeding a 95%ile effluent quality of 15 mg/l : 25mg/l : 4mg/l BOD:SS:NH4. (Biolochemical Oxygen Demand: Suspended Solids: Ammonia)
The 'packaged wastewater treatment plant' concept is derived from the ability to plug and play. The installation and flexibility of Copa® SAF equipment is another one of its key benefits. Each plant can be installed as:
- an above or below ground permanent solution, as a stand alone treatment system or to support / supplement an existing works.
- a temporary treatment plant for emergencies, or as part of a planned works maintenance program.
- a temporary treatment plant for military or resource exploration applications.
Installing a packaged plant such as the Copa® SAF above ground reduces installation time and civil costs. It also enables the units to be relocated or moved easily for temporary and semi-permanent schemes. Installing below or partially below ground reduces the visual impact in sensitive areas.
Careful attention has been paid to keeping the plant easy to operate, reducing the need for expensive skilled operatives to service and maintain the Copa® SAF plant.
Temporary wastewater treatment - Copa® SAF hire
In 1996, Jacopa became the first UK wastewater treatment company to offer temporary wastewater treatment Copa® SAF hire service. (The Copa® SAF is based on a packaged wastewater treatment system.) Since then, we have successfully completed over 100 temporary wastewater treatment projects using the Copa® SAF for hire contracts, helping customers to maintain treatment during breakdowns and routine maintenance for a wide range of domestic and industrial applications.
Pictured above is a temporary, on hire, packaged wastewater plant installation using the Copa® SAF. This demostrates the flexibility to supply any number of packaged wastewater treatment Copa® SAF units. A further installation was required to biologically treat flows being treated by ageing percolating filter beds, during a period of refurbishment. The temporary Copa® SAF packaged wastewater treatment plants were decommissioned and deployed to other locations at the end of the project.
Material
Copa® SAF tanks can be manufactured in 316 or 304 stainless steel or in mild steel. All Copa® SAF tanks are painted in a high quality polyurethane coating, extending the design life and dramatically reducing whole life costs.
