A temperature controller fulfils simple or even relatively complex control tasks. Various types of sensors can be connected to a temperature controller. Therefore, a temperature controller offers the possibility to process signals from resistance sensors or thermocouples. A temperature controller is available as a 2-point, 3-point or continuous controller and thus can be used for simple on/off control or even continuous control. In addition to controlling the control parameter via a relay, the different types of temperature controllers are equipped with further alarm relays which enable the user to connect, for example, signal lamps or alarm horns.

Programming can be done via the integrated keys and the target (set point) and actual values are displayed by LEDs or on LCD displays. Furthermore, in some cases, a temperature controller also has bar graph displays which allow a quick overview of the control parameter. Optionally, data loggers can be connected to a temperature controller as these can record the standard signal which is output. In the following, you can find some temperature controllers with all the characteristics described. In his introductory video, the technical editor Wolfgang Rudolph gives some general practical advice on the use and operating principle of a temperature controller, using a device from the PCE-KD Series as an example.

Of course, only a brief introduction is possible in a video. More detailed guidance or training and / or commissioning of our meters can be offered at PCE Instruments‘ premises or on site. For more elaborate applications, a 2-point temperature controller will not be sufficient, so a 3-point temperature controller must be used. A 3-point temperature controller can fulfil two different control tasks: it can monitor 2 temperature points and influence the control parameter by heating or cooling. For more accurate influence on the temperature, a continuous temperature controller can be used. A continuous temperature controller constantly monitors and controls the temperature and keeps overshoots of the control parameter at a very low level. This makes a continuous temperature controller the most accurate in its category.

PCE-RE various temperature controllers from PCE Instruments are compact 2-point process controllers designed for accurate temperature regulation in various applications. Both models accept a range of sensor inputs, display set and actual values via LEDs, and allow manual or automatic control modes.
