Colloide has been awarded the Innovation Award at the Mid Ulster Business Awards 2025, held at the Royal Hotel in Cookstown.

Colloide received the accolade in recognition of its work across water, energy and environmental sectors, highlighting the company's focus on practical sustainable engineering solutions. The innovation award, sponsored by McGeary Engineering, celebrates businesses that push boundaries through originality, creativity and impact.

Colloide has developed a range of technologies aimed at addressing environmental and infrastructure challenges; from the DUO Wave-Powered Desalination System (see video below), to the standardisation of chemical dosing systems for UK utilities, the development of advanced digestate treatment technology that turns waste into resources and pioneering renewable heat networks.

These projects embody Colloide’s belief that engineering must go beyond solving problems and focus on sustainability and long term infrastructure challenges.

Colloide’s collaborative approach, with partners including Queen’s University Belfast, Invest NI, and the Department for the Economy, demonstrates the strength of local innovation on a global stage.

Speaking after the event Financial Director Joan Irwinne stated that:

Innovation is at the heart of what Colloide does. This award is a reflection of the team’s dedication to finding smarter, more sustainable ways to solve complex engineering challenges.

The ceremony was hosted by local broadcaster Adrian Logan.
