Background
YellowStone Environmental Solutions operates a waste treatment facility in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The site handles a range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams on behalf of customers across several industries, including aviation and aerospace, garages and forecourts, manufacturing, and oil and gas.
The site had previously relied on a three-phase centrifuge system. Over time, that equipment was no longer able to keep up with demands. YellowStone identified the need for a replacement system that could restore dependable performance and support a higher processing throughput.
The solution
YellowStone selected the Hiller DecaOil model DO54-363SB VAHY centrifuge, supplied and installed by MSE Hiller as part of a complete system upgrade.
The DecaOil centrifuge performs continuous three-phase separation, dividing incoming waste oils into distinct oil, water, and solids fractions. The installation was configured with a throughput capacity of 5–7 m³/hr of waste oil from various industrial and retail sources.
The centrifuge boasts an automated control panel with automatic control panel with automatic wash facility, feed pump, P&P PDF2000 automatic polymer make up and dosing system, new support stand, pipework, valves, flowmeters and shaftless screw conveyor to discharge the dewatered cake into holding skips.
The Result
The recovered oil fraction meets a standard sufficient for it to be reprocessed and sold into the market. The water phase is directed into the site's wastewater treatment process, and the separated solids are disposed of as waste. This approach supports a circular use of recovered materials where viable.
Jay Thacker YellowStone’s general manager of the Shaftesbury site commented
“We are very pleased with the MSE Hiller DecaOil installation. It provides us with excellent outputs and has allowed us to increase our processing capacity and take in additional materials, including the hard-to-treat oily sludges from the environmental waste sector.”
