Continually stirred tank reactor (CSTR) for the anaerobic treatment of industrial effluents with significantly high amounts of suspended solids, including fats, oil and grease. Anaerobic equivalent of conventional activated sludge digestion.

Key features

  • Tolerance for high concentrations of TSS, fats, oil and grease (FOG)

  • Medium volumetric loading capacity (2-5kg COD/m3/day)

  • Passive degassing prior to clarification

  • Energy source from biogas production

  • Easy and economical operation

The Biobulk® features a special internal mixing, as well as passive degassing prior to clarification. It can accommodate a medium organic loading capacity of 2-5kg COD/m3/day.

The mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration in the reactor is controlled by periodic wasting of biomass returned from the clarifier.

The process is simple to operate and maintain and is an effective method for the anaerobic digestion of wastewaters containing high concentrations of TSS and/or FOG.

Biogas producted as byproduct is temporarily collected in the headspace of the Biobulk® CSTR, which acts as a biogas holder.

Biogas can be used as a source of renewable energy.
