TrojanUVSigna™ is an advanced modular UV disinfection system for wastewater treatment, ideal for mid- to large-scale primary, secondary, and reuse applications.
It provides an effective, safe and environmentally friendly way to disinfect wastewater against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses and chlorine-resistant protozoa, such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
The integral system is easily installed or retrofitted, and eliminates the chlorine disinfection system's need for stringent concrete tolerances at the walls.
Key benefits
- Efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly
- Medium- to large-scale treatment plants
- Modular and compact bank systems
- Broad-spectrum protection against bacteria, viruses and chlorine-resistant protozoa
- High electrical efficiency with fewer, long-life lamps compared to low- and medium-pressure lamps
- Automatic, dual-action cleaning of lamp sleeves with no disruption to disinfection
- Easy routine maintenance directly in the channel, or by using the automatic raising mechanism
- Suitable for new installation and for retrofitting
- Can be installed outdoors or indoors
Applications
- Water reuse
- Secondary and tertiary effluent
- Combined sewer overflows
- Storm and sanitary sewer overflows
- Blended effluents
- Chlorine disinfection system conversions
Construction
The TrojanUVSigna™system is modular. Each module, or bank, incorporates a set of UV lamps (TrojanUVSolo Lamp™) and integral bank walls.
The 1000W lamps are configured in staggered, inclined arrays with two, four or six rows. They are rack-mounted for easy removal and replacement, if required.
An automatic raising mechanism (ARM) lifts the bank out of the channel at the push of a button.
The system can be installed in an existing chlorine contact tank without major modifications to the channel depth or width.
Operation
Water quality is automatically monitored and key system operating parameters adjusted to meet disinfection targets.
Level controllers ensure that no portion of the lamp arc is exposed to air, which ensures operator safety, prevents sleeve fouling and maximises disinfection.
Light locks and the staggered, inclined configuration of the lamps, help direct the flow through the bank enabling high tolerance to fluctuations in flow rates and water levels, simplifying water level control.
Advanced, NIST-traceable sensors continuously monitor lamp intensity to guarantee disinfection and meet requirements.
Power consumption is optimised by the advanced lamp driver, which enables lamp dimming from 100 to 30% power, and has built-in diagnostic capabilities for easy troubleshooting. Banks or rows of lamps are turned on/off based on UV demand.
Cleaning and maintenance
Each bank has a dual-action (chemical and mechanical) ActiClean™ system to automatically clean the lamp sleeves without the need to remove them from the bank and with no disruption to the disinfection. The cleaning system is programmable for automated cleaning at defined intervals. The programme can be manually overridden.
Lamp change-outs and cleaning solution replacement are done while the UV system is in the channel, minimising downtime and simplifying maintenance.
Routine maintenance can be performed while banks are in the channel, but the automatic raising mechanism can be used other tasks, such as winterisation.
