J.A.M. Ltd - leak detection systems

J.A.M. Ltd manufactures water leak detection and environmental monitoring systems. Aqualarm systems are specified to detect leaks or monitor environmental conditions in offices, computer rooms, financial trading areas, plant rooms, listed buildings, archives, storage areas, museums, hospitals and MOD installations.

Zoned environmental monitoring systems

Zoned environmental monitoring systems comprise a central control panel that monitors several detectors. Control panels for 1–5 or 10–25 detectors are available. As well as water and refrigerant leak detectors, the systems can be connected to oil leak, temperature and humidity detectors. The systems have an LCD screen showing the detector status.

Water leak detection systems

Water leak detection systems are used to protect the fabric of the building, prevent health and fire hazards, reduce waste and minimise the disruption caused by leaks.

Continuous detection systems can monitor up to 1000m of cable, and can identify the position of a leak to ±1m. The detecting cable comprises a flexible nylon outer layer covering two tinned copper conductors. It is used under raised floors or in drip trays.

Other types of water leak detector available include point-of-use units for solid floor environments, such as plant rooms; float detectors are vertically mounted float switches used in sumps or tanks; and overflow detectors operate with two extended probes for pipework monitoring.

Refrigerant leak detectors

Refrigerant gas detectors are used to minimise environmental and health risks by detecting leaks from refrigerant gas pipework systems, such as those in HVAC?systems and cold stores. They can detect the most commonly used refrigerant gases, ranging from R12 to R507. The detected ratio of refrigerant gas to air can be adjusted from 0 to 1000ppm.

The detectors can operate as part of a zoned environmental monitoring system, connected to a central control panel.

Technical data

Refrigerant gas detection systems can be used to meet the requirements of F-gas Regulations, which specifies the safety and environmental aspects in the design, construction and installation of refrigerating appliances and systems. Refrigerant leak detection systems also meet government energy-saving criteria, and are on a list of approved technologies as part of the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme.
