Archimedean screw pumps are suitable for water management uses including irrigation, drainage, rainwater management and process water handling.

They are suitable for sewage treatment duties such as inlet and final pumping, inter-stage pumping, and return and surplus sludge pumping.

The screw pumps are especially suitable for handling contaminated water: whereas centrifugal pump impellers are only able to pass solids of less than 100mm, screw pumps can handle glass, building stone, sand, textiles and slaughter waste without any negative effect on efficiency.

They can be used for capacities from 15 litres/sec up to a maximum of 11m3/sec.

They come in three basic forms:

  • built in the traditional concrete trough
  • with steel trough liner and the prefabricated
  • ready to install compact units

Advantages include:

  • Suitability for foul and contaminated water
  • Simplicity and reliability
  • Little wear and tear and a extended lifetime
  • Minimal maintenance requirement
  • Wide capacity range

Screw pumps are fabricated from longitudinally or spirally wound steel tubes with flights formed from rolled steel. Special designs for handling high sand content water, contaminated water, seawater, and high and low pH values, draw on epoxy coatings, zinc primers and sealers.
