The Larner Johnson needle valve is used for free discharge control at pressures above that of the Fixed Cone Valve. The valve can also be used for in-line pressure or flow control applications and offers fine adjustment over its full range.

The valve is made to a heavy-duty design and can be constructed in cast iron and cast steel. It has a wide metal-to-metal seat design for reliable and durable shut-off. All parts of the valve are circular, making it free from distortion under high pressures.

It has a medium velocity discharge capability (up to 12m/s).
