The VertiCel® BNR process system reduces energy requirements by accounting for the effects of surfactants in wastewater on oxygen transfer efficiency aeration devices.

Fine bubble diffusers are very efficient oxygen transfer devices in clean water but surfactants reduce the efficiency of the diffuser by forming a viscous film on the surface of air bubbles.

By combining turbulent devices, such as disc aerators and course bubble diffusers, the VertiCel® BNR process prevent surfactants from accumulating into a film, which makes them more efficient than fine bubble diffusers. The VertiCel® process uses less energy than either type of aerator device would when operated by itself.
