Air flotation

(52)

Air flotation covers a set of technologies designed to remove suspended matter, including fine solids, fats, oils and greases, from municipal wastewater, industrial effluent, water and oil-water mixtures. Read More

Liquids will often be pre-treated with chemicals, typically coagulants or flocculating polymers, to aid the process.

In dissolved air flotation (DAF) air is dissolved under pressure into the liquid to be treated and then released at atmospheric pressure into a tank.

This process releases tiny bubbles (20-80 microns in size) that attach to the suspended material, causing it to float to the surface. Skimmers remove the floating material for disposal, further treatment or material recovery.

In cavitation air flotation (CAF) the bubbles are produced by a rotating disk rather than under pressure.

With induced air flotation (IAF) the bubbles are formed by the mechanical agitation of injected air.
